How long do you own your pet before you finally name it?

I am an animal lover and I usally wait a few weeks before I name my new pets, just to see how there personality is.

How long do you own your pet before you finally name it?
Anywhere from 2 weeks to about 2 months is the longest. Don't like giving any old name. And sometimes I will change it.
Reply:it took me for my 2 dogs about 2 days. My cat was in like 10 min. lol.....just search on yahoo for pet names. Report Abuse

Reply:I have always had the name picked out before I even go the pet lol...I already have a name picked out for the next dog I buy even though its going to be a while before I get another one lol.
Reply:four years at a minimum,
Reply:It usually takes me a few days to pick a basic name... but as the animal grows so does the name.

One of our most recent additions is a teensy calico. This kitten was claimed by my daughters (ages 9 and 10) who agreed on Daisy. My 11 yo son hated the name with a passion because she's a calico and not a yellow cat lol. He got into the habit of calling her "Ittyist Bittiest Kittiest" hehee so that's her primary name now.

I have a bob-tailed male tabby I named Rogue. He also goes by Buddy and Stubby-tale (sometimes tubby-tail lol). But he only comes to me when I "sing" his name (kinda yodel-like).
Reply:We named our dog right away. We'd even liked the name before we met him.
Reply:For a kittycat: I scrutinize the kitty for two or three days, and see what name suggests itself to me. Then I ask the kitty if he likes it.

For a dog: heck, you can have the name picked out before the animal. Dogs will answer to anything you like.
Reply:hehe, well we had our cat and she wasn't offically named until she had kittens....1 year later...hench her name 'mother'..original i know
Reply:I usually come up with something within the day I have the pet... doesn't take me long and I try to make it a fitting name for each my little "bad" kitties.
Reply:I do the same thing. Sometimes I've had to change the name because I didn't wait long enough.
Reply:i Wait 3 days

the sooner you give them a name the better they will be able to know their name and will have some kind of guidance in their upbringing
Reply:my cat still hasn't got one and its been a couple years...
Reply:We had a cat that we called "kitten" because we couldn't think of a good name for him. It ended up being his name his whole life of 16 years!
Reply:Well, i only owned one pet in my life and it was 2 days. Her personality was obvious, a guinea pig isn't too hard to guess, she was very playful and often made us laugh.
Reply:How long did it take your mom to name you?

STOP HR 4437!!
Reply:a few weeks? it take me about a second to name them
Reply:I name pets on how the look and they're personality. Maybe a day or two.
Reply:We had our cat for 2 weeks before we named him. You need to get to know their personality before you name them.
Reply:I usually find a name the same day...that way they learn their name quickly. If their personality reveals itself to be different than the name, I add a nickname and eventually convert the name over to the more suitable one. eg: my cat, originally called 'nina' (referring to the Spanish term for 'little girl'..has become 'El Nina'....referring to the apocalyptic and potentially disastrous chaos inflicted upon the earth by climate change. She's still cute though...he he.
Reply:ours came with their names we loved Oliver's name. we we were going to change MC's name but it had been nearly a month and we couldn't agree on anything so we just left it as MC but usually just call him M.
Reply:Well, it's different. For one of my cats I have chosen name even before I get him home. But it took me one month for the last one. I even gave him one name in the beginning which didn't suited him, so after a month his real name appeared by itself.
Reply:it takes me a few days. my dog answers to any name though. you could yell anything and she comes running.
Reply:I thought of my cat's name the week before I picked her at the county shelter. Her name is Tika, and she celebrated her eighth birthday back in May.
Reply:I name it asap so I can start teaching it it's name...maybe 3 days at most without a name...
Reply:Same day as when I get them.
Reply:I use part of the parents' name %26amp; then add something that fits the look and/or personality.
Reply:WE name our new pet after about 2 seconds. It makes sense to wait a few weeks like you say, but we like to start training it right away. We have a hard time training with out a name.
Reply:When I first got my kitty, i called him kitty-kitty for about a month then I finally saw how his personality was and knew the right name for him - Sam. He is a Sam - short for Sammy. I thought of so many and then asked him and saw he was happy with it and called him that since. I like the short one syllable name, when he does something wrong I can just yell "SAM", and he knows right away. He is my baby and he can't stand to be without me. He has to be in every room or close to me. When I go into the bathroom and shut the door he is there waiting by the door when I come out. As you can tell I am an animal lover to. I have three dogs also and it took time to name them too. I have Sadie, Zowie and Xyila - I call her Xyilagirl. She was my first and is very special to me and keeps the other two dogs in line.
Reply:as soon as i can think of a good one, usually no more than a few hours
Reply:Right away so they get used to it.
Reply:I was 10 when I got my first pet, and I was so excited that I didn;t know what to name him. I tried heaps of things ec Tiger, Patch, Garfield... All the while my mum was calling him Kitty, eventually thats the only thing he responded to, so thats his names. I call him Kitta as a nickname.

My second cat is only 2, it took me about a week to name her Flame (she's ginger and a little hellion). I call her Flay or Little Girl as nicknames, dad calls her Flamebo.
Reply:How long did it take you to name your girl friend?? I mean your guitar I mean your girl friend; what do you call it again?
