What's the name of the pet grooming process to get the dog's bad smell out of their butts?

i just want to know how they express their glands to avoid that awful smell out of little dogs... I want to know how they do it and why dogs get to that smelly point.

The post above it (by BadGirl41) is a pretty accurate and thorough description of how to do it, except you have to squeeze upward and OUTWARD (not inward as she posted.) It's very much like 'popping' a zit....but you should really have someone teach you in person until you get the hang of it, lest you accidentally rupture them to the inside and cause an abscess.
Reply:the "name" is expressing the anal gland....there is a couple of ways to do it the vet dose an internal way and most groomers do it externally by squeezing both sides of the anus at the same time gently untill a disgusting brown goo comes out and it smell like consitrated poo !!! the worst smell ever!!! so that is it....it is real gross!! one of the many in pet grooming
Reply:cleaning their anal glands
Reply:my little poodle didn;t poop for a while and his glands were backed -up. he had to go overnite so they had to scrape them off. it costs alot of money so the vet taught us how to milk the stuff out. if you do it rite it won;t even hurt your pet. g
Reply:expressing the anal glands.
Reply:Yes, they do express the dog's anal glands. A vet can do it, or a lot of dog groomers do it. My dog had to have it done after a long road trip when she, like her owner, felt uncomfortable pooping away from home and became constipated. You shouldn't have it done too often. The stinky stuff is a lubricant that helps them pass waste. It's only when the dog can't go that it sometimes becomes swollen and interferes with normal functioning.

Reply:You can also do it yourself, if you have been instructed by your vet. Who knows why the smell is there. But, expressing the anal glands periodically is good for the dogs. Sometimes, when they are too full, they can cause your dog to throw up or not want to eat.
