Reply:Someone dropped-off a mangy-looking German Shepherd near our house in the country back when I was a kid. He was skinny and puny looking, very scared of men, but he was obviously hungry and weak, so I talked the parents into letting me put the dinner scraps out for him at night. He absolutely would not approach that food if I or anyone was near it, no matter how bad he wanted to eat. So, I just watched him from behind the window, or maybe sneak around the corner of the house and peek around to watch him eat. Then I began calling to him, and the obvious words this young kid used were, "Here, boy!" I kept calling him over %26amp; over, day after day, with a pork chop or chicken bone in my hand, "Here, boy!" Eventually a break-through when he took it from me. All everyone else ever told me was he had been mistreated and no good for a pet. But I continued to feed him and he stayed around and looked better after a few months, all the time I had never even thought about a name for him. Just called him "Boy" all the time, so after a while, he became "Boy" to all the other kids in the neighborhood.


Boy was my first pet dog! Ol' boy...
Reply:My pets up until the current kitty have always had people names for the most part. I'm not big on the "cuddles" or "socks" pet names....kinda dumb to me. Anyhow, when I was young I had some budgies with some kind of odd names. The first one was "Berniece Jamie Tweety-Bird (surname)" because when I was 5 I couldn't decide what to call it, so I just used all the names I wanted. I also had three budgies at the same time a while later and named them Simon, Nick and John after the three remaining members of Duran Duran. (John was my favourite:p). Still the strangest pet name I've ever heard of comes from a friend's daughter, who decided to name her cat "Shiny Pencil"....not even kidding with that one, lol.
